Pdf Summary
Effective May 1, 2026, osteopathic physicians in Pennsylvania must complete 2 hours of continuing education in organ and tissue donation and recovery process as a one-time requirement within 5 years of initial licensure or license renewal, whichever comes first. The State Board of Osteopathic Medicine developed a required six-part curriculum with the region’s designated organ procurement organizations, CORE and Gift of Life Donor Program. The curriculum includes: overview of the organ donation and transplantation system, tissue donation process, organ donation process, determining death and family communication, caring for families, and organ donor management.

To meet the requirement, the education must cover all six parts and be taken through CME that qualifies as AOA PRA Category 1 or Category 2 under Pennsylvania regulations. The 2 credit hours may count toward the 100 hours required for biennial renewal. Physicians should keep a completion certificate for audit purposes. The final regulation is expected to be published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin on April 25, 2026.
