Effective May 1, 2026, Pennsylvania osteopathic physicians must complete at least 2 hours of continuing education in organ and tissue donation and recovery one time within five years of initial licensure or license renewal, whichever comes first.

The requirement applies to both MD and DO licensees and includes all active license types, including active, active-retired, volunteer, compact, and other applicable licenses.

The program will address the six-part curriculum adopted by the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine:

  • Overview of the Organ Donation & Transplantation System
  • Tissue Donation Process
  • Organ Donation Process
  • Determining Death and Family Communication
  • Caring for Families
  • Organ Donor Management
