This Pennsylvania State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators-approved program is designed to provide the knowledge for those interested in pursuing a career in the long-term care administration field.

This online program satisfies the 120-hour education component as part of the Nursing Home Administration (NHA) exam application. The faculty of the PCOM NHA course are leaders in long-term care who will share their experiences in the clinical and managerial aspects of skilled nursing care. For further information on the NHA exam, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of State licensure requirements page for Nursing Home Administrators.

Overview

This program consists of 16 courses, each 7.5 hours in length. The program is offered completely online, allowing learners to participate from any location. Each week, learners complete online course requirements asynchronously (on-demand recorded presentations) with an option to engage in a scheduled live interactive webinar each Tuesday. For those unable to attend these live webinars, learners may review these as recorded sessions. This course is divided into 16 weeks with the following schedule:

  • Wednesday – Monday: Review assigned on-demand recording(s) modules
  • Tuesday (10 am - 1 pm): Virtual speaker discussion. During these sessions, speakers will highlight and elaborate on key concepts, cover any new regulations and address any questions. These live sessions are required and will be recorded if you are unable to attend the virtual session.

Each week, you will complete an on-demand module consisting of three components:

  • A pre-recorded video
  • A knowledge check (not graded)
  • A module evaluation

This same format will remain consistent throughout the 16-week program.

Think of each module week as running from Wednesday through Tuesday. A new module begins on Wednesday and concludes the following Tuesday with the live speaker discussion. This gives you seven days to complete the week’s on-demand module before the live discussion.

Once you complete the required components for the week, the next module will become available, allowing you to work ahead if you choose.

Important: If you work ahead, you are still required to participate in each week’s live speaker discussion. If you are unable to attend the discussion live, you will need to return to the module and watch the recorded discussion once it becomes available.

Live speaker discussions are held each Tuesday from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM.

These interactive sessions complement the on-demand course content by providing current information, additional insights, and clarification on topics covered in that week’s module. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with experienced professionals in the field of nursing home administration.

The discussions also provide an opportunity to connect with fellow students in your cohort, exchange perspectives, and learn from one another throughout the program.

Unable to attend live? Each discussion will be recorded and made available for later viewing. Whether attended live or viewed as a recording, completion of each weekly discussion is required and counts toward the program’s required 120 instructional hours.
