A Holistic and Practical Approach for Addressing Opioid Substance Use Disorder


Requirement Satisfaction for Physicians:

  • (1) State-mandated opioid and pain management, (most states, 4 hours)
  • (2) DEA-mandated MATE Act (8 hours, in effect June 2023)

Format:  All sessions are recorded 

Accreditation: This program has been approved for a maximum of 10 hours of AOA Category 1B credit.  It will also satisfy the DEA MATE Act requirements for anyone requiring a DEA license (DOs, MDs, PAs, and NPs)

Description

This program is designed to provide a holistic and practical approach for supporting patients with Opioid Substance Use Disorder. In this program, we address the magnitude and impact of the opioid epidemic on society, screening and diagnostic approaches, strategies to seek and initiate treatment, treatment and recovery support services, non-opioid medications and treatment options for pain, medications to specifically treat opioid SUD, practice implications, and community-based strategies to address the opioid epidemic.   


 


At the completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize, screen and diagnosis Opioid Substance Use Disorder
  • Identify strategies to avoid the use of opioids, including responsibility prescribing practices, non-opioid medication and alternative treatments (such as exercise and OMT)
  • Describe examples of recovery support services and strategies for assisting patients with opioid SUD
  • Consider additional community-based approaches in addressing the opioid epidemic.
